Vital Signs Data Capture for Low Acuity Environments
In lower acuity environments, such as med-surg, vital signs collection is periodic and needs to be done on multiple patients. The challenge with vital signs data capture in these environments has always been how to automatically send those validated, collected vitals for each patient to the EMR. With Capsule's solution for lower acuity environments, clinicians can actually capture vital signs for mutliple patients, validate those vital signs at the point of care, and automatically send them to the EMR - and all in a way that integrates with the existing clinical work processes.
Here's how. The Capsule Neuron is actually mounted directly to a roll stand with the spot-check monitor the hospital
is already using and is therefore incorporated with the existing design of the unit. Vital signs are automatically captured by the Capsule Neuron for any devices connected to it, either locally or via a gateway and there is an additional screen that allows the clinician to enter notations related to collected vital signs and/or enter additional manual vital signs that were taken such as temperature and respirations.
Finally, after validation the clinician can automatically send the patients vital signs to the EMR so the patient's record is updated immediately without the clinician ever needing to log into the workstation. This means that physicians and all hospital personnel have access to that patient's data faster than ever before and that the clinician can quickly move on to the next patient in the unit.
This is a truly unique way of handling vital signs data capture in lower acuity environments. A design that fits the workflow, that allows for validation and additional data entry at the point of care, and that allows the clinician to submit the information right away to the EMR and then quickly move on to the next patient, without having to carry another hand-held device or log into another workstation. This is the Capsule way of connectivity - why? because Capsule knows what it takes to connect.
