About theTerminal Server and Capsule's Plug and Play Connectivity
The DataCaptor Terminal Server is Capsule's first generation hardware component for connecting devices at the bedside. While the Terminal Server is still available and supported by Capsule, it does not offer the same features, flexibility and scalability as Capsule's new platform, the Capsule Neuron.
The Terminal Server is a high performance, high reliability serial-to-Ethernet concentrator designed for the medical environment that connects RS-232 equipped bedside medical devices to the network with plug and play connectivity for safe transmission of data to information systems. The Terminal Server is mounted near the patient's bedside to connect medical devices such as patient monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps and other equipment to the network for automatic patient charting.
It has a 4-port and 8-port serial to Ethernet option and is a medical grade product compliant with IEC-60601 standards. For more informaiton download the Technical Data Sheet.
As Capsule's first generation platform, the the Terminal Server is installed at over 500 facilities around the world and continues to be a highly reliable, cost effective, choice to achieve vendor neutral, plug and play device connectivity; particularly outside the U.S. where regulatory clearance is still being pursued for Capsule's next generation hardware platform - the innovative Capsule Neuron. However this new platform is now preferred by hospitals because it features a display of connectivity status at the point of care, data caching, and wireless deployment options. It is also a more scalable solution that works in high and low acuity environments and can be upgraded to add future solutions such as positive patient association and wireless device connectivity.
