Studies show that nurses spend only 20% of their time on direct patient care activities and that a growing percentage of their shift is spent on documentation or on managing technologies and devices rather than caring for patients at the bedside. Do you ever wish you had more time to spend on patient care?
If so, we’d love to hear your stories. We’d like to know how you currently spend most of your time. What would you do if you had more time to spend with your patients? Would you, for example, sit and talk or read to your patients? Would you take time to more thoroughly explain a procedure or test? We simply want to know so we can work with our partners to develop technologies and solutions that will give you back this time.
And of course, since this is a contest, we will be giving away some great prizes in appreciation for you sharing your story (see box to the right). So please, take a moment, to enter our “I Wish I Had Time To...” story contest.
To enter, simply describe a situation where you were limited in time and wish you had more. What activity held you up? If you could recover time, what would you do? You can tell us in writing, submit a video, or even record yourself telling your story. We've included some examples below to get you started:
We will begin accepting contest submissions online on Sunday December 5th, the same day that Capsule will be exhibiting at the IHI, Institute for Healthcare Improvement trade show. If you are attending the show, be sure to stop by the Capsule Booth #925, where you will have an opportunity to create a videotaped entry of your story with our booth staff or enter on-line in our booth!
The deadline for submissions will be March 31, 2011 at 5pm EST. The Top 10 stories will be chosen from all entries received and will be posted on Capsule’s facebook page during the month of April. They will also be published in an interactive storybook that will be displayed on the Capsule website for all to see!
And that is when the real fun begins and you and your colleagues get to vote! The Grand Prize Winner will be chosen based on the number of “likes” awarded by our facebook fans, and will be announced during Nurse’s Week, May 6-12, 2011!
