Product Overview

Capsule's Vendor-Neutral, Enterprise Device Connectivity Solution is comprised of both electronic medical software and hardware components, providing a modular solution that can be used for device integration from any biomedical device to any EMR. The solution is designed to retrieve and deliver data from virtually any type of bedside medical device and send it to clinical or hospital information systems using HL7 standards.

Capsule's electronic medical software solution for device connectivity collects all available data from bedside devices via direct serial connection to the device or via the hospital’s existing network, directly or through a gateway. And, it features true plug and play connectivity for automatic device identification so users can connect and reconnect medical devices without the need for reconfiguration thereby enabling easy relocation of devices between beds or hospital rooms.

DataCaptor™ Software

Capsule’sDataCaptor™ software is the core software component of Capsule's Connectivity solution. It runs on standard Microsoft Windows based-platforms. It supports up to 500 simultaneously connected devices on a single DataCaptor™ Connectivity Server with the flexibility to link multiple systems for increased levels of scalability. DataCaptor features built-in support for over 450 bedside medical devices such as patient monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps and anesthesia machines and supports services such as data queuing and device management.

Connectivity Hardware

Depending upon the type of connectivity, there are a few hardware components that may be needed to deploy Capsule’s Connectivity solution. For serial connectivity, the solution requires the Capsule Neuron or Terminal Server, DataCaptor device specific cables, and device ID modules (a/k/a DIMs) for plug and play connectivity. The diagram shows how these hardware components are connected to deliver vital signs data into the DataCaptor Connectivity Server.
