HMS Partners with Capsule to Enhance Hospital Software Offerings

Nashville, Tenn. and Boston, Mass, February 27, 2008 – – Healthcare Management Systems, Inc.® (HMS) announced today an integration partnership with CapsuleTech, Inc., the world’s leading independent supplier of connectivity solutions for medical device data integration. The partnership will enable HMS to install Capsule’s DataCaptor™ Connectivity Suite into all present and future healthcare facilities that use HMS clinical applications. HMS is one of the nation’s leading information technology systems companies focused on the community hospital marketplace.

DataCaptor automatically integrates patient clinical information from any bedside medical device by converting medical device data to HL7 format and communicating it to HMS in a unified data stream, thereby improving clinical documentation, enhancing workflow and saving thousands of nursing hours. DataCaptor supports one of the largest device interface libraries in the world with over 370 different types of medical devices, such as patient monitors, ventilators and infusion pumps, supported.

The partnership will benefit HMS customers by offering clinicians a more efficient process for gathering patient information. The information that DataCaptor communicates to HMS was usually collected manually at each patient’s bedside device several times a day. By seamlessly connecting DataCaptor to HMS, vital signs and other important medical device data can be available for care givers to access, review, track and report online in real time, thus increasing clinical productivity and efficiencies.

Tom Stephenson, President and CEO of HMS states, “This is an exciting opportunity for HMS and Capsule to provide our customers with the necessary tools which will allow for automated patient monitoring.” Stephenson also adds, “This relationship further highlights our commitment to provide our customers with quality solutions and support of strategic initiatives that will bring improvements to patient care.”

“We are delighted to work with HMS,” says Arnaud Houette, CEO of Capsule. “This partnership will give us the opportunity to further advance clinical productivity via workflow automation in community hospitals.”
