Capsule and Dräger Bring Medical Device Connectivity to HIMSS08

BOSTON, Mass.-Jan. 24, 2008 - CapsuleTech, the leading independent medical device connectivity solution used by hundreds of healthcare institutions worldwide, and Dräger, a global provider of medical products, services and integrated system solutions, today announced their participation in the Interoperability Showcase. The 2008 Interoperability Showcase will be part of the 2008 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference & Exhibition, to be held Feb. 24-28, 2008, in Orlando, Fla and will be set up as a HIMSS Health Information Exchange (HIE)- based environment. Clinical scenarios with enhanced privacy and security will be enabled by the standards-based Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) framework.

This year, 52 showcase vendors - including Capsule and Dräger - will bring together more than 74 healthcare information solutions to build a secure Health Information Exchange (HIE) that supports patient-centric clinical workflow.

Capsule will participate in the Patient Care Device (PCD) area of the showcase, providing an interoperable connectivity solution via its DataCaptorTM Connectivity Suite for Dräger's Innovian®, a Web-based patient data management solution. Capsule's DataCaptor will collect patient data from patient monitoring solutions, anesthesia systems, and ventilators from vendors such as Welch Allyn, SpaceLabs, and B.Braun, as well as information from GE and Philips gateway devices, and seamlessly integrate it with the Dräger Innovian Solution Suite.

"This demonstration highlights Capsule's commitment to achieve true vendor-neutral interoperability for patient care devices and gateway products, which enables clinicians to achieve optimal workflow," says Arnaud Houette, President and CEO of CapsuleTech. "We are proud to partner with Dräger and together contribute to IHE and drive the development of effective and easy-to-integrate medical device connectivity solutions."

"Dräger's participation in the IHE Patient Care Device area since its inception demonstrates our commitment to the development and adoption of open standards," says Ken Fuchs, Director of Systems and Connectivity Engineering, Competency Center Monitoring and IT, Dräger. "These standards and IHE profiles promote interoperability - which improves the ease and cost of implementation and allows the deployment of solutions that improve the quality of patient care. We are very excited to be working together with our long-time partner Capsule to demonstrate what we consider to be the future direction of medical device connectivity and data integration."
