Healthcare Connectivity Expert Brian McAlpine Joins Capsule

Andover, MA, September 23, 2008 – Capsule (www.capsuletech.com), leaders in medical device connectivity, today announced that Brian McAlpine has joined as Director of Strategic Products. Mr. McAlpine will help Capsule extend its market lead in both software and hardware medical device connectivity solutions.

Mr. McAlpine has more than 18 years experience in the medical device market. He was Director of Marketing and Product Management at Emergin during the period of high growth when sales tripled, which led to the acquisition by Philips Medical. Before joining Emergin, Mr. McAlpine held senior positions at Siemens Medical, Draeger Medical, and Hewlett-Packard’s Medical Products Group, which is now part of Philips Medical. At Draeger, he spearheaded a successful and innovative project to migrate existing wireless (Wi-Fi, 802.11b/g) patient monitoring devices to an environment that shares a hospital’s existing wireless infrastructure, a first in the industry. At HP he launched the HP DeviceLink medical device integration solution and was responsible for the HP/Philips device connectivity and integration solutions.

"Brian McAlpine is an extremely well respected senior-level professional in the medical device industry. His technical and product expertise in this market is an enormous asset to Capsule," said Mark Morwood, Vice President of Product Management at Capsule. "Healthcare providers recognize the importance of device connectivity, and are increasingly looking to Capsule for vendor neutral, open architecture solutions. Brian's unique experience makes him an invaluable addition to our team as we move forward with new, innovative connectivity solutions that address ongoing industry issues such as positive patient ID, clinical point of care workflow, and accurate patient data.”

"Through its partnerships with leading EMR and device manufacturers, Capsule is uniquely positioned in the healthcare IT market and is the recognized leader in device connectivity,” said Brian McAlpine. "I joined Capsule because the company has a tremendous opportunity to make a significant impact and improvement to the point of care environment. I have also had the great privilege of working with many of the Capsule executives at prior companies and know the strength of this management team, so becoming part of this innovative, forward-thinking company is very exciting for me."
