Interface Will Provide Connectivity Between the SmartPump Tourniquet and Major Healthcare Information Systems
CapsuleTech, the leader in biomedical device integration solutions, today announced the release of a serial interface to the SmartPump tourniquet manufactured by Stryker, Inc.
The interface enables collection of time-stamped, intraoperative SmartPump data, such as tourniquet cuff pressure settings, inflation and deflation events and cumulative cuff inflation time. The collected data can then be automatically sent to HL7 compatible Clinical Information Systems to support perioperative documentation. Systems such as Cerner’s “SurgiNet” anesthesia record, DocuSys’ “DocuSafe” system, Philips’s clinical applications and many other Clinical Information Systems are supported by this new interface. The interface is part of CapsuleTech’s biomedical device connectivity solution DataCaptor, and is included in the largest library of device interfaces available in the industry.
“The addition of the SmartPump to the DataCaptor Device Library is an important step for CapsuleTech and the medical industry” said Gretchen Burthey, VP of Product Management at CapsuleTech. “Clinicians in the OR will now be able to automatically capture data from the tourniquet during surgery in their clinical information system, improving the quality of clinical workflow, patient care and providing error-free documentation.”
“The previous generation of tourniquet systems were not designed to support today’s demand for automatic, standardized electronic documentation,” stated Michael E. Hovanes, Stryker’s CEO. “As a contemporary device, the SmartPump tourniquet supports connectivity and CapsuleTech’s technology enables seamless data integration. Their interface elevates the value of connectivity to a new level. Now the patient chart can automatically document AORN and ASA compliant tourniquet data.”
